Ridge Augmentation

When your jawbone loses volume after tooth loss, ridge augmentation can rebuild it to support dental implants and restore your smile. At Rintel Oral Surgery, we combine skill and care to make the process smooth and effective for you.
What Is Ridge Augmentation?
Ridge augmentation is a specialized type of bone grafting that restores the natural shape and size of your jawbone, specifically the alveolar ridge, the area of bone that surrounds and supports your teeth.
When a tooth is lost or extracted, the alveolar ridge can begin to shrink or collapse, leaving a noticeable dip in the gumline and reducing the bone available for future dental implants.
Ridge augmentation helps rebuild the lost bone, restoring the original contour of the jaw and creating a strong, stable foundation for implants or other restorative treatments. It also helps improve the appearance of your smile by supporting the surrounding gums and facial structure.

How Is Ridge Augmentation Performed?
Ridge augmentation is typically done after a tooth extraction or in preparation for a dental implant.
During the procedure, your oral surgeon opens the gum tissue to access the area where the bone has deteriorated. Bone graft material is then placed directly into the defect to restore height and width to the jawbone.
The graft material may come from your own body, a donor source, or be made from a biocompatible synthetic material. Once the graft is in place, the area is closed with sutures and allowed to heal.
Over the next several months, your body begins to regenerate bone in that area, integrating the graft and rebuilding the ridge.
How Long Does It Take to Heal?
Recovery from ridge augmentation typically takes between 3 to 6 months, depending on the size of the graft and your body’s natural healing response.
Regular check-ins with our team ensure everything is healing properly, and we’ll give you clear guidance on how to care for the area at home to support a smooth, successful recovery.
