Wisdom Teeth

Some wisdom teeth erupt without issue, while others stay hidden beneath the surface and quietly cause damage. Our team evaluates each case carefully to determine whether removal is necessary and when it should happen.
We aim to prevent long-term complications like cysts, infections, or bone loss—sometimes before you even feel symptoms.
What Are Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars, usually appearing between the ages of 17 and 25. Some people have all four, some have fewer, and others may not develop them at all.
They often emerge long after the rest of your adult teeth have come in, causing problems if there isn’t enough space in the jaw.

Do Wisdom Teeth Always Need to Be Removed?
Not always. If your wisdom teeth grow in straight, healthy, and without affecting neighboring teeth, removal might not be necessary.
However, many people experience crowding, impaction (when the tooth doesn’t fully emerge), or increased risk of infection and decay. Regular exams and X-rays help determine whether your wisdom teeth could cause future problems.
What to Expect During the Process
We know any kind of oral surgery can feel intimidating, which is why we walk you through everything ahead of time.
Evaluation and Planning
Your first visit includes a thorough exam and digital X-rays to see the position of your wisdom teeth and how they’re affecting your oral health. Dr. Rintel will explain whether removal is recommended, and if so, discuss your options for anesthesia and recovery.
Removal
On the day of your procedure, our team will review your anesthesia options and confirm that you're comfortable before we begin. Depending on the position of your wisdom teeth, removal may involve a simple extraction or a surgical approach if the teeth are impacted.
Most procedures take under an hour and are performed right in our office. Some patients have all four teeth removed at once, while others may only need one or two taken out.
After the procedure, we’ll go over detailed aftercare instructions and provide a recovery plan to help manage swelling, discomfort, and healing over the next few days.
